Rhubarb Farm – November Update

October marked a couple of milestones in Rhubarb Farm’s progress: teams of Community Payback workers started to clear the brambles and rubbish, and we had our inaugural event on the site, ‘Soup On Site’. We were pleased that, despite some rain, a lot of local residents came along from Langwith, the village in which Rhubarb Farm is situated. Bolsover Rotary Club loaned and erected a marquee which kept everyone dry.

We have received another grant to pay for electricity connection to the site, from the Freemason’s Fund in Nottingham. We are now recruiting for our first staff – a horticulturist and an admin/finance worker. Of course, Androo and Jennie the directors will be paid as Site Co-ordinator and Business Manager, but only at below the NIC threshold, in order to make our money go further!

We are already getting requests to take people on work placements and as volunteers, so Rhubarb Farm is not far off becoming operational.
