Rhubarb Farm – April update

April saw more development on the Rhubarb Farm site, despite incredibly dry weather. Our water and electricity were finally connected, and Ruth our admin officer could at last plug in her laptop in the office container!

The gardeners and volunteers planted 700 potatoes, as well as beetroot and broad beans. The preparation of the soil is hard work as it is not only baked dry, but full of rubble from when it was an allotment, and so takes a long time to clear. It has been harrowed a second time by our farming neighbour, but our next requirement is some machinery to speed up the work.

More volunteers and work placements are joining us, as well as a lad working his community service order hours off. We still get some vandalism, and are hoping we will get our fencing before too much longer.
