Rhubarb Farm – July Update
July has been a build up to the Family Fun Day on 23rd. The electrics and water had to be connected to the café, which involved taking a lot of limestone rock out with pick axes and a jack hammer. The site was smartened up and signs put up labelling each crop. The Family Fun Day was a great success with about local 300 people coming to enjoy the stalls, pole-lathe wood turning, children’s activities, pony rides, animals to pet, story teller in a teepee and food in the café. We also sold vegetables and were surprised by the demand – we had to keep digging up more, and in the end made £98 from veg sales, despite very low prices. Beetroot was the most popular. We were delighted to find that the small social enterprise called Meals to You which did the catering in the café used all Vegware products – so we were able to put these on the compost heaps at the end of the day!
