Calder Food Hub – July Update

An ‘Edible Gardens Trail’ on 16 & 17 July, part of our ‘How does your garden grow?’ competition, attracted local press attention. The project made use of our new website, where downloadable maps of the trail were posted.

A stall at the Transition Town ‘Local Economy Showcase’ on the 16th July was productive. We distributed information and displayed local food in season, currants (red, white and black), Gooseberries (red and green) and Jostaberries.

Our ‘Bush Fruit Festival’ scheduled for 17th July, was extended for a week, as the day itself was a washout. 13 people eventually picked 7kg of bush fruit.

Plot 20, our new allotment at Redacre, has received a looking over and a bit of a dig.

Two courses in July, a ‘Scything Skill Share’ day on Monday 11th, and an ‘Introduction to Forest Gardening’ on Sunday 24th did not attract enough participants to make running them viable.
