Broomehouse Health Strategy Group – November update

The ‘Fit & Healthy’ cookery classes and exercise classes run for the local community have been going really well, with lots of delighted clients who have found the advice on healthy eating really helpful. The volunteers have been really busy as well, with the Fruit & Veg Co-op Shop now opening on Monday and Thursday afternoons until 4pm for a trial period. It seems to be ‘bearing fruit’ (excuse the pun!) as we have seen an increase in the takings with every afternoon we have been open, as well as lots of new faces who have not been in the shop before. The volunteers have also had a recent Open Afternoon to share all the news of the services we are now offering, as well as a talk from the Walking Project Officer from Wester Hailes, to ensure they can talk to customers with knowledge at their fingertips on the various walking groups in the area.

We are also really delighted to have received funding from Comic Relief to enable us to run free weekly cookery drop in sessions over the next two years! ‘Cookin’ Drop In’ will start in January on Tuesday mornings, and through the year we will be chaging times and days, to ensure it is accessible to all. In the next couple of weeks before Christmas we are running some free ‘Crafty Christmas Cooking’ promotion sessions to help raise local awareness of the new service.
