Cilgwyn Community Group – April Update
For over eight years people in Newport have wanted allotments. Now we have a lease agreed with a land owner, the barony. It is for 0.8 of an acre, quite high and sloping, but with running water. There are fourteen families on the waiting list, eight of them are now very happy to have land at last in sight. The others are less enthused by this plot, or less in a hurry to have an allotment. Vegware has supported our efforts to find allotments before and the plan is to contribute to our next expense with the fund.
There is nothing like allotments for happy gardening, good eating and peaceful social life. Newport is surrounded by land but it has proved very difficult to find anyone willing to allow allotments on it, because the owners hope that one day it will be a building plot and worth at least £300, 000 an acre!
