WREN – May Update

WREN continues to grow and develop. We have now passed the 600 membership mark.  We continue to have a steady flow of visitors to the Energy Shop who come in with a wide range of queries about all aspects of energy generation, conservation and use.

We were very pleased to receive the award for Best Third Sector Business 2012 at the recent Cornwall Business Awards ceremony.

We have now completed the work funded under the LEAF programme. As a result we have for the first time good data and information on the energy conservation needs of the local housing stock.  Cornwall in  general and Wadebridge in particular has a high proportion of hard to treat housing, much of it with solid wall construction which means it is not eligible for the subsidised cavity wall insulation grants.  We are now working out how WREN, as a social enterprise, might play a role in taking forward the improvements to energy conservation that are necessary in our area. Similarly we are working up proposals for ‘buying clubs’ to bring down the costs of solar thermal, energy efficient lighting, biomass technology etc.
