May saw the launch of Calder Food Hub’s What’s Local? Scheme, in which blackboards were handed out to 23 local shops, cafes and market stalls in order for them to advertise any produce or ingredients that have been sourced within a thirty mile radius of Hebden Bridge. All participating businesses were also given a CFH local produce directory to help them to source more locally.
The aim of the scheme is to raise the profile of local produce and to build better relationships between local producers and retailers. It will be an ongoing project that will hopefully eventually see every food retailer in the area selling at least one local product or locally sourced dish.
