Community Fund – Greener Leith – January Update
Recently Greener Leith has been working even harder to make Leith a cleaner place to live. Apart from a recent clean-up in Pilrig Park in which over a dozen public-spirited volunteers turned collected some 30 bags of rubbish, several Christmas trees, bikes, fridges and assorted ‘bits’ within the space of an hour, we have found new and unusual ways to persuade people to tidy up after themselves as this neat little video shows:

Greener Leith volunteer Alastair Tibbitt, who came up with the idea for the project and who produced the videos said: “Leith keeps coming near the bottom of the city league table for litter, but we wanted to do something really positive that celebrates the fact that there are still loads of people in the neighbourhood who show they love Leith by doing simple things like putting their rubbish in a bin or clearing up after their dog.”
“Rather than nagging people who might not always use a bin to change their ways, we hope this project will encourage everyone to think about the positive difference they can make to the great public places we all share in Leith.”
The videos have been really popular and show environmental wardens Paul and Kevin hand out prizes donated by local Leith businesses to folk who have taken the trouble to clean up after themselves or their dog:
