Community Fund – Calder Food Hub – January Update

We have been busy planning our annual ‘Seedy Saturday’ seed swap event. This year it will be held in April at the Redacre project, site of our Community Allotment. As well as providing a space for people to swap seeds, we will be inviting them to join up to basic food growing skills courses to be run on the plot, part funded by WEA and NHS Grants for Health and Wellbeing. Their first action on the course will be to plant a seed and a seedling for planting on at a later course date.

One of our members has designed a questionnaire and has been gathering feedback from users of the ‘What’s Local’ blackboard scheme. Some interesting data is appearing – the idea of a website updating what local produce is available from where is popular, and retailers would like to occasionally buy small quantities of locally-grown produce. A report will be produced in March.
