Community Fund – Calder Food Hub – February Update
12 retail shop owners were individually interviewed in person through a questionnaire concerning the Blackboard scheme. (A Blackboard had been given to food retailers/cafes in Hebden Bridge in 2012 by Calder Food Hub so each business could advertise in their windows the sources of their local produce used in their business). The interviews were carried out to find out how the Blackboard scheme was going. Questions concern the impact of the use of the Blackboards, change in sale of local produce, amounts of sales of their most popular local produce, their experience of dealing with local producers, their interest in sourcing local produce more easily and if so how – including their response to suggestions from Calder Food Hub, and any further help they needed from Calder Food Hub in building links with local producers. Further producers will be interviewed in March. Additional producers have been identified who are interested in becoming part of the Blackboard scheme. Also further contacts have been made who may be interested in volunteering their time in the work of CFH.
Further plans have been made to organise our annual ‘Seedy Saturday’ seed swap event in April.
