Community Fund – Royal Edinburgh Gardens – November Update
Our focus this month has turned to the seasons ahead – preparing for the next growing season as well as making provisions for keeping warm over the coming winter.
The garden team have been involved in compost gathering. Building up the compost heaps as well as collecting comfrey and alcanet to mulch down for the next growing season. There has also been continual leaf gathering as well as general tidying up of the garden. There has also been an immense effort put into firewood collection and sawing up, so thanks to everyone for making provisions for this winter and next winter too!
We were delighted to have the help of colleagues from Blackrock for a day who helped build a storage container using wood kindly donated by Ralph Curry, as well as creating a new rose bed with plants donated to us by B&Q. Blackrock, along with the help of Shandon Local Food Group, also re-laid the woodchip in the south garden as well.
We also enjoyed another momentous market this month in Morningside. A new venture for Morningside, now into it’s third month and it is building momentum. All stallholders are local producers so it really is worth a visit to buy locally produced goodies. From vegetables to cheese, salami and bread as well as fish, crafts and other local surprises. The next market is Saturday 21st December so don’t miss out on your last minute Christmas goodies.
