A great end to 2013 and start to 2014 here in Broomhouse as with new funding from the Scottish Government’s People & Communities Fund we have recruited a part-time Community Development Worker to support our new series of cookery and exercise sessions.  “Food & Fitness In Broomhouse” is bringing a free weekly exercise sessions and free twice weekly cookery sessions to the local community.  There is a free creche with the exercise sessions and with half of the cookery sessions.

The classes are open to everyone – and this term are running to the end of March.  We are really delighted to report that the funding will enable us to run sessions to April 2015!  The exercise sessions are on a Monday at 10-11am, and only into their second week, we already have a full creche and lots of keen participants!  The cookery sessions that have a creche run on a Tuesday morning from 10am – 12 noon.  This session is for women only and we are focussing on attracting the local BME community.  A second session (without a creche) runs in the afternoon from 1.30-3pm starting from beg. of Feb.

There’s been some simple, tasty and healthy dishes prepared and much enjoyed by all those taking part, and it links up so well with what we are selling in the shop.  We like to encourage clients to come and see what they can buy in the shop – as our Recipe Bags have some great new additions – Sweet Potato and Chickpea Korma for £3 or Lentil Dahl for only 75p!”
