Community Fund – Broomhouse Health Strategy Group – May Update
The cookery and exercise classes have been in full swing this month, with some extremely proud clients that have truly felt the benefit of coming to the sessions – both in terms of fitness levels, and in their confidence to cook and enjoyment of cooking an eating more healthily. We are so pleased that the sessions have attracted a great range of ethnicities including African, Romanian, Polish, Bangladeshi, Syrian, Arabian, Pakistani and Italian.
To illustrate with feedback from the exercise “They have inspired me to become more active and to change my lifestyle. My baby really really enjoyed the creche too”. The feedback from the cookery sessions is equally powerful “It has encouraged me to use more veg and cook from scratch”. We also see the sessions important in helping to create social connections “I have only lived in Edinburgh for 8 months, but after joining this group I feel more confident and aware of Edinburgh. I’m so happy I joined this group.”
We also held a Celebration Evening for our hard working volunteers – our chance to say thank you for all the time, effort, skills and commitment they give to us. We currently have over 25 all helping us provide all our health and wellbeing services here in SW Edinburgh. It was a great evening starting with a craft workshop, where some fabulous artwork was created, followed by a very enjoyable buffet and lots of friendly chatter!
