Newsletter: New Green Britain cups, FREE bags, new soup film, new phone number…
This time: we’re in today’s Guardian sustainability debate, Green Britain cups are BACK, new soup cafe film, more awards, and FREE bags for anyone who deserves them!
1. Join me today – online Guardian debate on small business sustainability
At 1-2:30pm today, Wednesday 11th June, I am on the panel of experts discussing sustainability with the Guardian Small Business Network. Join in the live Q&A here! You just need a Guardian profile to get commenting.
2. Our Green Britain cup is BACK!
Yes, summer now has its own pretty cup. Back by popular demand, we’ve revamped our Green Britain cup. The green Union Jack is now in a pretty heart shape on a kraft background, but it’s still compostable, sustainably sourced and British Isles made. Lined with cornstarch means 51% less carbon than a conventional plastic lining. Here’s a little article about them on FoodBev.com too.
3. New film – about zero waste soup cafe!
More films! The latest is a case study on zero waste soup cafe Union of Genius, who have discovered that sustainability is good for helping a small business grow. WARNING: contains explicit soup-making footage – do not watch if you are hungry.
Union of Genius opened in 2011 and has used Vegware’s completely compostable packaging from day one. This Edinburgh soup cafe runs a unique loyalty scheme which rewards customers for bringing back their used packaging for composting after use. Customers help them complete the recycling circle and earn themselves a free soup into the bargain!
Also, now we have a little cinema on the front page of www.vegware.com so we’ll pop the latest films up there, as well as on youtube.com/vegware.
4. Awards…for global expansion
It’s been an exciting time of growth for us – we’re the UK’s 30th fastest growing firm. But as well as expanding at home in the UK, we’re also going global, active in five continents. We’ve just been named Innovative Exporter of the Year in the BQ awards – here is our Recycling Consultant Eilidh looking pleased with our new trophy.
And we’ve had two exciting European awards – our wonderful Carol went to collect our gold medal (Ruban d’Honneur) in the European Business Awards, and I represented Vegware at the UK ceremony for the European Business Awards for the Environment.
5. FREE recycled carrier bags for anyone who deserves them
We have a surplus of recycled paper carriers we would like to donate to good causes. They are white printed recycled paper carriers with sturdy tape handles, measuring 10 x 15 x 12 inches. Perfect for carrying away a tasty lunch.
They are at our Edinburgh HQ, available to be picked up during normal office hours. We can also send them to you, in which case you would only pay the shipping charge. Contact us on office@vegware.co.uk or 0330 223 0400 to say why you deserve them and how many packs of 125 you’d like. Don’t be shy – we have plenty to give away!
6. New phone number
Our Edinburgh HQ’s new mobile-friendly number is 0330 223 0400, which is charged at local rate wherever in the UK you call from. If anyone still uses a fax machine (remember them?!) then our fax number is 0330 223 0401.
That’s all for now!
As always, say hello to @vegware on on twitter or look at the pretty pictures on facebook. Or if you actually want to talk about compostable packaging, we like that too. We’re on info@vegware.co.uk or ring 0330 223 0400.
