Community Fund – Broomhouse Health Strategy Group – July Update
We have been holding some special Summer Holiday Cooking Sessions, to provide a chance for parents and carers to cook with their children, to develop their skills and confidence to try new recipes at home. These sessions have been a great success with lots of family groups enjoying cooking pizza faces and fruit kebabs.
Both children and adults have found the sessions very rewarding, and have learnt knife skills, how to follow recipes, how to work together to share equipment and food in the kitchen. They also made lots of new friends and found out all about our other services! “We enjoyed making the pizza and choosing the toppings – we’re going to make these for dad.”
We also held 3 lots of evening sessions for adults to help increase their confidence and give them new skills in the kitchen and an awareness of how to eat to more healthily. They cooked sweet potato korma with homemade naan bread and gooseberry fool. The sessions were really well received with participants learning lots around preparing and chopping vegetable, putting together ingredients and understanding different methods of cooking – sautéing, simmering and boiling.
