Newsletter – meet our gourmet range…and much more news too
We’ve been up to the usual – launching new unique products, sharing leftovers recipes, winning awards, and organising educational seminars on NHS waste…here goes!
1. NEW – Gourmet range
We’re very excited about this! Meet the market’s first eco spill-proof window box – for hot or cold food to go. This unique patented range of bagasse bases with matching lids is exclusive to Vegware.
The base is made from recycled sugarcane fibre, which has 99% less embodied carbon than polystyrene and paper, and it’s suitable for the microwave or freezer. The lid has an anti-mist clear window made from corn-based PLA, which has 51% less carbon than PE plastic film. The whole thing is completely compostable, as you’d expect with Vegware.
Here is a short demo video, and here it is on our website – get in touch for samples!
2. Christmas orders by 19th December
Want to guarantee that your Vegware will arrive before Christmas? Then order by the 19th of December! Oh and our elves need a little time off now and again, so our (veg)warehouse will be closed from 24th December, reopening on 2nd January 2015.
3. Free seminar: Sustainability, carbon & waste reduction in Scottish NHS Catering
We’re teaming up with Resource Efficient Scotland and others for a half-day seminar on 20th Nov 2014 in Edinburgh. NHS boards are under pressure to improve sustainability, recycle more, reduce carbon and save money. New Scottish Waste Regulations have wide-reaching affects, including banning macerators and mandating food waste recycling.
Our free educational seminar brings together NHS professionals from catering, waste and procurement teams across Scotland for a useful introduction to complex subjects, and an opportunity to discuss your experiences with our experts. Last few places available – RSVP to Dominic@vegware.co.uk
4. We’re all ISO’d up… 9001 and 14001
It’s now official – our brand new ISO 14001 and 9001 certification is the seal of approval that shows our quality and environmental systems are reliable and well managed. Paul Adderley, the nice chap who helped us achieve our new certificates, said, “Some companies view QEMS as a tick-box exercise to gain the ISO stamp for a tender. Not Vegware. Overseen by three directors, the whole team has diligently worked with me to ensure that the requirements of ISO9001 and ISO14001 are not just exceeded, but thoroughly embedded. I can report that the business systems of this rapidly growing company are in fine form to keep pace with the demands of their expanding market share in Europe and beyond.” What a nice chap.
5. Leftover recipes & cupstaches on social media
All through October, we teamed up with IGD’s Working On Waste campaign to highlight ways for all of us to reduce food waste. Which in practice meant THINKING ABOUT FOOD ALL THE TIME. AGAIN. Our foodie team’s recipes are in this Facebook album – have a look! We also had a leftover lunch when we shared food we had made from leftovers – very sociable and also useful to think of creative ways to avoid wasting food.
And now it’s #Movember! For those unable to grow moustache, consider a #cupstache – as modelled by our Poppy. Join in the fun on twitter and facebook, and don’t forget to donate.
6. More awards! 1 win, 3 shortlistings…
After a thorough grilling by a team of ICAEW accountants, we won the SME category in the Finance for the Future Awards, which is fantastic news. They said… “The judges were particularly impressed with the work that the company has been doing regarding education, Eco Audits and the Food Waste Network. Quite clearly, sustainability is an integral part of Vegware and without taking it seriously and promoting it, there wouldn’t be a business. In other words, from a sustainability perspective, Vegware stood out as the clear winner of their category”.
What else?
- Together with our long-standing chippy friends The Bay, Vegware is representing the UK in the EU’s European Business Awards for the Environment.
- We’re shortlisted in 3 categories in the Caterer Product Excellence Awards.
- And finally I, Lucy Frankel, am up for ‘Rising Star’ in the UK Packaging Awards, kindly nominated by Martin Kersh of the FPA.
That’s all for now!
As always, say hello to @vegware on twitter or look at the pretty pictures on facebook. Or if you actually want to talk about compostable packaging, we like that too. We’re on info@vegware.co.uk or ring 0330 223 0400.
