Community Fund – Batley Girls’ High School – January Update
We start the New Year with a chill in the air but still with overall high temperatures for this time of year. The allotment is currently being dismantled for relocation onto the farm and the combined farm and gardening activities in the future will make for a better all round learning environment.

Several of the maturing birds from last years hatchings now need to be moved from the farm to allow a more selective breading activity from those remaining. We also have to be aware of the noise pollution from the cockerels that are trying to establish their own territory since the farm backs onto residential housing.
Several local horticultural shows have been earmarked as potential educational school visits that may also reward some of the farm and gardening club members for their efforts. Additionally an activity “les cultures” (cultivation/growing)is being prepared for year 8 students studying French that may involve a visit to a local salad leaf/seed/bean growing business.
