Vegware volunteering: Ronald McDonald House summer party

In the spirit of giving back to the community, employees from Vegware recently took part in a memorable summer party event at Ronald McDonald House in Glasgow. This event provided a much-needed respite for families going through challenging times.

Ronald McDonald House provides a “home away from home” for families with children undergoing treatment in local hospitals. The House offers a place where families can stay close to their sick child without the financial burden of accommodation costs.

Four volunteers from Vegware took part in the event, which was a great success. From setting up fun activities such as the bouncy castle, face painting and handing out snacks, the volunteers ensured that every aspect of the event was covered. Guests were very excited when the Mr Whippy ice cream van arrived to give free ice creams to the guests. There was even a surprise visit from some various Star Wars characters, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Batman, and Spiderman!

The power of partnership

This wonderful event would not have been possible without the generous donation from Vegware and our parent company Novolex. The combined donation covered the costs to run the event, ensuring that families could enjoy the festivities without worry.

At Vegware we encourage all our staff to take part in volunteering.  Every team member can take one paid day a year to volunteer for a cause that is close to their heart. All these opportunities are organised through our Community Fund. The fund supports a wide range of causes and community projects. We offer non-profits the choice between small monthly grants, a regular donation of Vegware’s plant-based packaging, or a one-off donation towards an event or community project.

Making a difference

The event raised around £1900 to help keep the Ronald McDonald House doors open, however the main achievement was that all the families who attended had a fantastic day.

Lyndsay Anderson, Events and Community Fundraising Manager said “We have received fantastic feedback that all the guests attending had a great day out and loved spending time in our garden with other families. In particular, one if the families who are currently staying at the House said that it’s the best day they have had in a long time.”

This a great example of how corporate social responsibility programs can engage and support their communities. The partnership between Vegware, Novolex and the Ronald McDonald House team highlights the impact of volunteering and the importance of supporting families in need.

For Vegware’s volunteers, this event was not just about giving back; it was also an opportunity to connect with the community and witness first hand the difference their efforts make.
