Ciccetta’s is bringing a scoop of Italian sunshine to Bruntsfield, Edinburgh.

As part of our In The Neighbourhood series, we spoke with the lovely Becca who opened the doors in March 2026. Read on to discover the story behind Ciccetta’s, which are her most popular flavours, and what album is playing on repeat this month.

With handmade gelato, hot drinks, vegan and gluten-free options, and a colour palette that says summer even when it’s sideways rain outside, we’re fully on board.

Tell us a bit about you, why gelato?

Gelato making I kind of fell into it! In my last 2 years of high school, I was diagnosed with coeliac disease. My sister suggested that I don’t go straight to university after having been so unwell, and to take a proper break instead. This is when I decided to take a “gap year” and I started working at my local gelateria.  

I had never really liked ice cream as a dessert… but eating proper artisan gelato for the first time changed my life. From here an obsession was born – I attended Carpigiani Gelato University in Bologna, Italy, and have now eaten gelato all over the world. 

What inspired you to set up Ciccetta’s? 

This is a loaded question! For starters I am totally in love and inspired by the Australian gelato scene… There are so many amazing gelaterias and chefs that run them. To name just a few; Chicho in Perth, Pidapipo and Piccolina in Melbourne, and Cow + Moon, Ciccione + Sons and Mapo Gelato in Sydney! These gelaterias are usually open late-night as well so that people can enjoy their evening passeggiata* with a cone in hand. Nothing beats a scoop of gelato on a hot summer night – it’s so refreshing!  

*For those that don’t know, a passeggiata is a traditional Italian cultural ritual that translates to “the stroll” 

Secondly, Scottish produce has inspired me. When I moved to Scotland in 2023, I really started to appreciate how Scottish produce is some of the best in the world.  

Thirdly, I’ve had a lot of people (literally too many to list) that have inspired me. All my past employers especially – Sean, Mark, Chiara, Anouke and Sasha. I feel so lucky to have been surrounded by so much support since the beginning of my career and for the startup of Ciccetta’s. It’s also been great to watch other young people on Social Media document starting their own businesses – it makes you realise that anything is achievable at any age! 

What’s your most popular gelato flavour? 

Salted pistachio, strawberry and lavender are always our best sellers I’d say! Can’t beat the classics.  

What album is on repeat in your business? 

We love the Italo disco tunes in the shop! However, at the moment, I’d say that the albums on repeat are anything Jamiroquai, Bruno Mars, Silk Sonic or Olivia Rodrigo. 

What’s your favourite thing about Bruntsfield? 

My favourite thing about Bruntsfield is definitely the community. Recently our shop was broken into, and the number of people that sent lovely messages and showed us support by checking in on us was beyond. The people really make Bruntsfield! And all the small businesses also!
