Located in Ogmore-by-Sea, South Wales, Brewed by Owen opened in October 2025. Owen serves his coffees overlooking the beautiful Welsh coastline. It’s a business built around three things that Owen loves: great coffee, the beach, and Land Rover Defenders. 

Read on to find out what the tune of his truck would be, which celebrity he’d love to make a coffee for, and why he chose Vegware packaging for his business.

Tell us a bit about Brewed by Owen

I am born and bred in Ogmore-by-Sea, which is where the coffee truck is based, and I’d always dreamed of running my own business. Taking that leap of faith and combining my passions into one has been the best decision I’ve made. 

I work closely with The Welsh Coffee Company, having used their coffee for years. Before starting the truck, I worked in restaurants across Cardiff city centre and helped open a café in Southerndown, where we always served their beans.

Everyone has their own opinion on what makes the best coffee, but from my experience, The Welsh Coffee Company gets it right every time. The company is based here in Ogmore-by-Sea, with its roastery and café in the community centre. You can watch the beans being roasted or pop in for a coffee before heading down to the beach.  

How do you take your coffee? 

My go-to coffee is a flat white – but it has to be a proper 6oz flat white. None of this extra-large flat white business! 

A big shout-out to The Welsh Coffee Company and their AUR/GOLD blend. It’s a medium roast made with beans from El Salvador and Brazil, with delicious notes of chocolate, caramel and apricot. For me, it’s the perfect flat white. 

If your business was a song, what would it be? 

For my coffee truck on the beach at Ogmore-by-Sea, it would have to be Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and the Wailers. 

It captures everything the business is about: slow mornings by the sea, the rhythm of the waves, good coffee in hand, and that easy coastal feeling where life feels a little lighter. We serve surfers, walkers, locals and visitors who come for a moment to pause, breathe in the salty air and enjoy something simple done well. 

Like the song, the truck is warm, relaxed and optimistic – a little reminder that even on a windy Welsh beach, “every little thing is gonna be alright.” 

We love that you use Vegware packaging! Why did you choose us? 

I chose Vegware for a few reasons. Firstly, my girlfriend loved the pastel colours of the Feel Good cup range, so that was an easy decision! 

Secondly, Vegware is a certified B Corporation, which aligns with the kind of business I want Brewed by Owen to be. 

Finally, their packaging is made from plants. Working on the beach every day makes you appreciate the environment around you, so sustainability is something that’s genuinely important to me. 

If you could make a coffee for anyone, past or present, who would it be? 

If I could make coffee for anyone, it would be Kelly Slater.  

He has inspired generations of surfers, not just through his achievements, but through his lifelong connection to the ocean. As someone who spends as much time as possible in the water, sharing a coffee with Kelly after an early morning surf at Ogmore-by-Sea would be hard to beat. 

I would hand him a flat white, pull up a chair overlooking the waves, and chat about surf sessions, the ocean, and protecting the coastlines we all love. Running a coffee truck on the beach gives you a real appreciation for the environment, which is why using Vegware packaging feels like the natural choice. Great coffee, great waves, and doing our bit to help keep our beaches beautiful – it doesn’t get much better than that. 

What’s your favourite thing about working at Brewed by Owen?  

Without a doubt, it’s being at the beach every day.  

I’ve lived in Ogmore-by-Sea my whole life, and now I get to work here too. Whether it’s the sunrise, the changing tides or seeing surfers, dog walkers and families enjoying the coastline, it’s a pretty special place to spend every day. 

Being able to serve great coffee in the place I call home is something I’ll never take for granted.
